General Guidelines:

Publication production is back on track and we are open for submissions! 

Thank you for your continuous support of San Antonio's only independent literary magazine. Voices de la Luna is making changes that will increase the mission of our nonprofit. We believe that poetry heals and art advances the quality of life. While our current theme and topic is open, Voices seeks to publish well established and emergent writing and art that lends to this belief: "poetry heals and art advances the quality of life." Send us your best works for consideration.  

Submissions to Voices de la Luna must be uploaded to Submittable in order to be considered and accepted for publication in an upcoming issue; typically within six months of a submission. Authors whose work is accepted will receive a copy (electronic, print, or both) of the issue in which their piece appears, but no further remuneration, unless negotiated separately. 

Visual Art Work- The kind of art we look for must not be previously published online or in print. We typically accept visually stunning, high quality images, that have an important message, layers of ideas and concepts. Works might include, but is not limited to, fine art, photography, illustration, graphic art, or mixed media. Submit no more than 3 images of your visual artwork per quarter. Images must be 300-dpi or higher definition quality for consideration.

Youth Poetry-for poets 18 and younger- Send up to three poems in a single Word document.  Poems may be any length, but poems less than 50 lines in length may be given priority.  Please use Times New Roman 10 pt. font and left justify your poems. Please include the name of the school you attend and your email address so we can send you a PDF if your work is accepted for publication.

June: Open theme


 Send both, your Artist Bio and Artist Statement so that we might include these on our website and/or printed pages.
 Voices de la Luna seeks previously unpublished, highly skilled, visual art that fits the magazine issue's theme.
 The kind of art we look for includes, but is not limited to, fine art, photography, illustration, graphic art, or mixed media.
 Please submit up to 3 images of your visual artwork. Images must be 300dpi or higher definition, for consideration.

 June: Open Theme

Send up to three poems in a single Word document. Poems may be any  length, but poems less than 50 lines in length may be given priority.  Please use Times New Roman font and limit submissions to no more than three poems per quarter. Please include your email address so  we can send you a PDF if your work is accepted for publication.

We publish Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter issues. Submissions for a particular issue must be uploaded to Submittable by: February 1st, May 1st, August 1st, and November 1st. If your submission falls past these dates it will be considered for the following issue.

Editor will respond to all submitters regarding our decision to accept. We will not publish any work without your revisions or permissions pre-print copy. Voices will notify you if your submission is accepted for a one time publication, which will be published within three months of acceptance. We may need to publish an accepted piece up to six months after acceptance with author consent.

Thank you for writing this book review! As you know helping authors get their books to readers is paramount. Voices de la Luna would like to encourage book sales for emerging and established authors. We are excited to read you concise and encouraging analysis of a new book. Any book review should be written in a concise and encouraging analysis of the text. Book reviews should include the author's name, bio, and the book title, genre, author, author image, book image, and a book review of 1,200 words or less. Please submit your review as a word document, in Times New Roman,  and a 12 pt font. 

**Only Accepted book reviews will be published.

Won't You Celebrate with Me

A Bilingual Poetry Festival for Youth and Adults

Open to San Antonio, Texas residents and visitors. *Poets who place must be present to receive the prize. 

Inspired by the poem, won't you celebrate with me, penned by Lucille Clifton, Voices de la Luna is inviting you to send us poems that consider celebration as resilience and healing because our mission statement reminds that poetry heals wounds and art improves the quality of life. Send us your best polished poems of resilience, healing, joy, celebration, or however the theme of "won't you celebrate with me" finds you. We are excited to read your poems. Our undisclosed panel of judges will consist of published poets living in San Antonio who are familiar with all age groups and multilingual aspects of poetry. All poetry forms will be considered including visual and collage poetry. 

  • Submit a maximum of three poems, with maximum length of 24 lines per poem (no more than one poem from a poet will be selected for a prize).
  • Submit as Word document or PDF.


 

Include your name (name of your school, name of your poetry teacher, and grade if ages 13 to 18 years old) and category: 

Category 1    ( Grades 7-8 )

Category 2   (Grades 9-10 )

Category 3   ( Grades 11-12 )

Category 4   ( Adults )
 

Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2024.

  • Prizes awarded to poems in each age group Youth or Adult and all poems that place will be published in our magazine. 

Voices de la Luna inspires and promotes poetry and art. Our events and magazine serve as a platform for all poets and artists to share their work with others. It further uses poetry and arts for both educational and healing purposes in the community.

Winning poems will be celebrated and published in an upcoming issue. Authors whose work is accepted will receive a copy (electronic, print, or both) of the issue in which their piece appears.
