Yanaguana Submissions General Guidelines
We encourage original submissions in Poetry, Visual Arts, Reviews, Interviews, and Essay·Memoir·Creative Nonfiction. We consider thoughtful work tailored to the categories of Eco Poetry and Poetic Medicine, and Singing Waters is open to ChicanX and Indigenous authors who self-identify.
All stories are welcome. Please review all guidelines. For fiction submissions, please email us to see if your piece might find a place here.
Yanaguana is published in electronic format twice a year: Fall·Winter and Spring·Summer. Work we accept for Yanaguana is typically published in the next available issue. Please be aware of the submission deadlines for each issue.
If we accept your work we will request first serial publication rights. Rights return to the author after publication.
Please also let us know if you are submitting your work elsewhere.
We return all AI manufactured items.

Send up to three poems, as inspired or interpreted by this theme of the issue, in a single Word or PDF document.

We do our best to honor creative formats and fonts; always include instructions with your work if you wish us to retain special formatting, and for such formatting it is a good idea to include a pdf or image (if you are able to make one!) so we can more easily understand your intentions.

We recognize that AI permeates our culture. We prefer to publish authentic works and ask that you please disclose any use of Artificial Intelligence in your work and in which ways AI may have contributed to your work. If your work is found to be AI assisted and not disclosed, we will not publish it.

Artists whose work is accepted will be celebrated through Yanaguana's social media, but there will be no further remuneration, unless negotiated separately. We are delighted and honored if you also tag Yanaguana in your social media posts upon publication.

We wish for unpublished, highly skilled, visual art directed at or consciously misdirected at the issue's theme. Visual art includes fine art, photography, illustration, graphic art, or mixed media. Please submit up to 3 images of your visual artwork. High quality digital files only, please.

We acknowledge that creative nonfiction can present itself in any form, and memoir can be fraught with unreliability, and that essay may be little more than a name for a container of words shaped by convention. In this category we wish for you to send us truth-telling that begins with facts based in reality rather than imagination; we are most curious what your imagination makes of the facts of reality.
